Year One Animation training will be broken up between the three terms.
Year 1, Term 1:
In-betweening Level 4, Credit 33
Students are introduced to the number one fundamental skill a good animator needs: in-betweening. The training is intensive and includes largely practical drawing exercises working on real studio shows, with the intent of teaching students the basic principles of animation, including timing, arcs and squash & stretch.
18 hours per week.
Life Drawing
Regular life drawing classes are where students learn classical drawing skills which are complimentary to those required by a good animator. Using professional life models, students draw quick gestural sketches and longer detailed tonal studies, and learn about gesture, tone, weight, form, rhythm lines or line of action, silhouette, balance and anatomy.
5 - 6 hours per week
Digital Flash Animation
Using this exciting software package students learn the Flash interface, and practise digital drawing and animation skills. Each at their own computer station, students work on animation exercises that progressively build their skills to a professional level.
6 hours per week
Digital Painting - Photoshop
After learning the Photoshop interface and tools, students practise digital painting skills required for concept art and colour design, paint backgrounds for animation and learn skills of digital painting for comic artists.
2 hours per week
Animation Technical Level 3, Credits 5
Additional techniques and principles are taught through fun practical exercises including animation terminology, processes, equipment and workflows.
6 hours per week
Term 1 Projects
During the final two weeks of term 1, students work in small groups to direct and create animated opening sequences for short films being produced by film students on the South Seas Film & Television course. Under the guidance of industry professionals, each group produces a 10 - 15 second animation sequence.

PETRINA D'ROZARIO | 2007 Petrina graduated with a double major in Producing and Documentary Directing. "The most important thing I learned at South Seas was to have great time management and multi-tasking skills. I learned to be efficient and quality conscious." As a result she is now producing commercials for Flying Saucer in Mumbai, India. Petrina says, "Producing in Mumbai is challenging but utterly exciting. The nature of my job lets me travel to various locales on shoots, client meetings or pitching for new business. Being invited to Bollywood premiers and standing a few feet away from my favourite stars is always fun!" |
