Marco Hidalgo - Digital Photography Course Tutor
Marco has been a professional photographer since 1987, working as a freelancer for most of his career. He learnt photography the hard way, with a 4x5 inch studio camera that allowed not only bellows extension, rise and fall, but also lateral, swing and tilt movements. This proved to be the perfect tool to apply his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design and Art History, which obviously permeates all his work and approach to imaging solutions.
Throughout Marco’s career he has widely photographed in the studio and on location alike. The digital realm is now Marco’s palette for creating work that was beyond the limits of film.
His photographs have been used by organisations such as Fairfax Magazines, Air New Zealand, Aeromexico, Esteé Lauder, Redken, Baxter, Smith+Nephew, Johnson&Johnson, Allegiance, Fresenius Kabi, Nestlé Foods, Anderson Clayton, Mido, Clinique, Dove, Tommy, ADT, Bausch&Lomb and Coca-Cola.
Marco’s interest in writing and in the world has taken him to some of the most distant corners of the planet. He has covered stories from Antarctica to the Himalayas, from Libya to Borneo, and published hundreds of travel articles since 2003. This new dimension in photojournalistic work style alongside his travel writing has led to a storytelling approach to photography. Marco joined South Seas in July 2009.
