Term 2 Description
As we arrive from a one week Holiday, images from the documentary photo assignment are post produced, viewed and analysed. This will give students a good feedback on improvements along the course.
We will shoot a few more of the white and black tone compositions, but they will only get more difficult to shoot, as we add extra elements of complexity. Model shooting workshops happen alternatively to the product shot workshops, images are post produce immediately after each workshop for viewing and analysing before starting the next exercise. This will ensure constant feedback which is paramount for a good understanding of the work done and a constant development of skills.
Photoshop demonstrations and exercises will also increase in complexity; this will enhance and help images produced during the course achieve its full potential. Monitor calibration and a comprehensive lens and digital camera sensor testing will also help develop an analytical mind that will be able to recognize and judge which hardware best suits any photographic assignment.
During Term 2, we will embrace Photojournalism and the great outdoors in a series of exercises that include landscape photography. And what a better place than New Zealand to learn and practice landscape photography! Other exercises will further camera techniques and visual language tools, such as camera panning and freezing movement techniques.
Term 2 is the pinnacle of our series of studio product shot photography workshops. We will be working with difficult to photograph objects, such as those having highly reflective surfaces. Other exercises will include difficult product settings, often happening in professional commercial photography. Students will now be ready to embark in the Jewellery Photography Workshop and the Car Photography Workshop.
At South Seas, we emphasise on a good and sound photographic technique, as a means of achieving prime understanding of light and capture technology. This is the aim of the extensive studio workshops, to help graduating photographers from South Seas to undertake their future assignments, whether they are studio or location, commercial, Art, documentary or even photojournalism.
At the end of this term, we will focus on portrait photography, having acquired good lighting techniques and interacted with models in various workshops; it is time to venture into the demanding art of portrait photography. Exercises include commercial and art photography portrait, photojournalism and documentary style portrait.
Preparing for the mid term big Holiday break, research will be done on major world renowned photojournalists. Viewing and analysing their work will nourish and prepare students for their big Holiday assignment. More than four weeks of Holidays, will suffice for a couple of Travel Photography and Photojournalistic assignments. This will give students the perfect excuse to go about beautiful New Zealand and explore its landscape, people and unique flora and fauna.
