Film & Television Course Curriculum - Presenting & Interviewing Skills

Note: 'Presenting & Interviewing Skills' is not available as a specialist skills major

Overall Aim:
To prepare students for
(a) Trainee positions within the industry as On-Camera Presenters and/or Interviewers and
(b) To work as Presenters/Interviewers on youth market educational/entertainment programmes or regional television shows.

To achieve this, the curriculum includes:

10-01. Introduction to, and development of skills in, communicating through the camera in a relaxed focused manner utilising your total personality. Use of autocue with script reading delivered smoothly and fluently.

10-02. Introduction to, and development of skills in;
(a) inter-relating with your guest in such a way that they feel at ease and motivated to speak freely and openly;
(b) Utilising your personality to create interactive situations which have interest flow and development.

10-03. A practical experience in how to carry out appropriate research and develop a line of questioning appropriate to the interview situation, the subject and the programme. Also to develop an ability to brief & debrief their guest.

10-04. Introduction to, and development of skills in, pronunciation with
(a) Foreign and English words pronounced to International Phonetic script standard
(b) Maori words pronounced according to Iwi pronunciation.

10-05. Introduction to, development of skills and practical experience in working in a studio situation where;
(a) style of delivery is appropriate to target audience programme and channel
(b) Red light cues are followed
(c) Response to studio direction is immediate and appropriate.

10-06. Development of grooming skills including:
(a) Choice of clothes appropriate to personal image of presenter and programme style
(b) Personal make-up and hairstyle
(c) Choice of accessories.
