Film & Television Course Curriculum - Studio Production Skills
Note: 'Studio Production Skills' is not available as a specialist skills major
Overall Aim: To prepare students for:
(a) Trainee studio production positions in the Television/Video Industry
(b) Assisting on television/video studio productions. To achieve this the Studio Production skills curriculum includes:
7-01. An introduction to
(a) the Studio Production sector of the Film, Video and Television Industry
(b) the work of Studio Production personnel
(c) the equipment, facilities, and production procedures used in studio productions.
7-02. An introduction to, and extensive practical working experience in, the operation and basic maintenance of all equipment, facilities, materials and supplies utilised by the Studio Production department of the South Seas Film and Television School on productions, ranging from short studio interviews, to half hour long television shows.
7-03. An introduction to
(a) the television and video industry with particular reference to the New Zealand industry.
(b) the production personnel employed on programmes, ranging from short studio interviews, to half hour long television shows
(c) The responsibilities and duties of each of the following studio production personnel; Floor Manager, Director, TPA, Vision Mixer, Audio Mixer, Technical Producer/Lighting, and Studio Camera Operator, and the way they and their work inter-relates with the work of other television production personnel.
7-04. Practical work experience in carrying out all the duties and responsibilities of the selected specialist studio production skills listed in 6-02 on a series of over 16 studio productions, graduated from short interviews to 30 minute duration television magazine and quiz show formats. 7-05. Practical experience in:
(a) supervising and/or communicating clearly with all studio production crew as well as other production personnel in order to creatively and dynamically co-ordinate their work with your own;
(b) taking on in each selected skill the responsibility for helping to conceive and realise the production requirements for a project on time, within the allocated budget and to a professionally recognised standard.
