Courses will be held in July, September and November/December 2010.
The one-week introductory video production course is designed to introduce students to
(a) The working practices of the television and video industries
(b) The scope, content and training practices of the one-year full time Film and Television Production course
(c) The practical use of the school's video equipment and facilities.
Each course consists of five days of practical exercises. During the course students receive intensive hands-on experience in using professional EFP cameras with onboard video recorders, audio recording equipment, video editing suites and multi-camera television studio production facilities.
Other relevant aspects are also covered - such as on-camera presentation, interviewing and acting techniques, and basic directing and production skills. Students will be involved in the production of actual short programme items through working in teams, as well as individually completing a short video item, which is designed to let them express their own creativity.
Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate confirming their course participation and the production skills covered. Students will also receive a CD with all work completed over the week.
During the course all students are carefully assessed in order to evaluate their potential for further study and work in the film and television industries. Students who successfully complete the introductory course will be given favourable consideration for the one-year full time Diploma in Film and Television Production. However, this consideration does not in any way automatically guarantee a position on the diploma course.
