OSA Course Outline
This course provides the On-Screen acting skills that enhance a person’s potential talents and skills so they can confidently audition for demanding dramatic roles.

This course will provide the skills that enhance a student’s potential talents in order to gain employment in today’s demanding industry.  Acting both in New Zealand and Overseas has seen a major shift with the predominant area of employment now in screen acting rather than theatre.

This South Seas Film & TV School one-year full time Diploma course is the only course in New Zealand completely focusing on On-Screen Acting for Television, and provides total focus and immersion training in the unique skills and techniques required. No two actors are the same, and with a maximum intake of 24 students the course guarantees each student individual attention on their personal needs. Our tutors – two full-time and four part-time, plus industry-based guest tutors for specialist areas, have the opportunity to focus on each actor encouraging them to enhance their strengths and helping them work through their weaknesses with constructive criticism.

The course has a huge practical base, and includes:
  • Working on scenes from film and television scripts on a regular basis, which are recorded, viewed and analysed
  • Working on television commercial scripts, which are recorded, viewed and analysed.
  • Performing in a short film with an outside director at the end of the second term.
  • Intimate theatre production during term three.
  • Performing in a multi-camera drama with a guest director during the third term.
  • Performing in a short film with a trainee director shot on location also during the third term.
  • Performing in end of year dramas, to be directed by outside and/or in-house directors.
  • Working on audition techniques during term four.
  • Support in sourcing an actors agency.
South Seas Film and Television School is well equipped both in equipment and facilities making it an ideal venue for an acting school with a screen performance focus.

In addition to the practical work, students will have training in:
  • Voice
  • Speech
  • Physical agility and relaxation through Yoga
  • Movement and physical awareness through Eurhythmy
  • Accent coaching including Australian and West Coast American
  • Basic stunt introduction
