MAD opens this week A new play featuring some South Seas graduates opens this week.
South Seas 2009 On Screen Acting graduates Dawn Adams, Min Kim and Emma Thorburn are performing in a new play. For two nights only (26 and 27 November) Mad will be performed at Shed 10, 90 Wellesley street in central Auckland.
"The play is set in a mental insitution," says Dawn. "It covers the themes of love, death and a significant porridge trolley."
The play is a production of the Actors Studio.
"Elena Stejko from the Actors Studio came to South Seas to talk to the On Screen Acting students during our last term in 2009," explains Dawn. "The Studio has its own theatre troupe which I have been involved in since then. We host a lot of showcases and performances where we invite people from the industry along."
The collaboration between the Actors Studio and writer/director Thomas Sainsbury inspired the concept of "pay-what-you-think-its-worth."
"It's a new concept for us but it has worked for Thomas in the past," says Dawn. "Generally the audience is made up of family and friends, so it will be interesting to see how much they pay at the end of the night!"
